Company named a finalist in AI/Machine Learning category, its second consecutive finalist award.
MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 28, 2021 – Certifi, the leading provider of automated benefits billing and payment solutions, has been named a finalist for the Minnesota Technology Association‘s 2021 Tekne Awards in the AI/Machine Learning category. It marks the second consecutive year Certifi has been nominated for a Tekne Award, having been named a finalist in the Financial Services category a year ago.
For the past two decades, the Tekne Awards have recognized organizations that are leading innovators in science and technology throughout Minnesota. The 2021 Tekne Awards celebration on Nov. 17 will reveal winners among the finalists in 13 categories.
Certifi is a finalist in the AI/Machine Learning category for the artificial intelligence built into William™, its automated premium billing and payments platform. Often, individuals will neglect to send identifying information with their check payment. Matching the payment to an individual can be a time-consuming process requiring a team of analysts. Instead of leveraging a team of people, the artificial intelligence Certifi built analyzes the check to intelligently associate the payment with the appropriate account.
“We are honored that the Minnesota Technology Association named us a Tekne Award finalist for the second straight year,” explained Jay Belschner, Certifi’s CEO. “The artificial intelligence built into William™ enables our customers to process four times as many unmatched payments, saving them time and expense.”
Each year, the Tekne Awards celebrate Minnesota’s leaders and innovators in the technology field,” said Jeff Tollefson, president and CEO of MnTech. “Even amidst an ongoing pandemic, we are excited to recognize these companies and their efforts in spearheading technology and innovation both locally and globally.”

Certifi has helped insurance companies, private and public health exchanges, state Medicaid, and benefits administrators automate premium billing since 2006. William™, the company’s cloud-based automated billing and payments platform, helps improve accuracy and efficiency in billing and payments thanks to an accounting-style transaction engine called Perfect Balance™. To date, Certifi has processed more than $5 billion in premium payments and handles nearly 10 million transactions per month.
